Ducted or recirculating: where does the air go?

Both approaches start by extracting cooking vapours at the hob. The difference is what happens to the air afterwards — and what your kitchen needs to accommodate it.

Ducted extraction: an air route to the outside

An exhaust-air system sends extracted air outside through ducting. Your kitchen designer and installer need to plan the route, the outlet and an appropriate supply of replacement air.

Recirculation: filtered air returns to the room

A recirculating system passes air through grease and odour filtration before returning it to the kitchen. The cabinetry still needs the specified return-air openings, and the odour filter needs the maintenance required by that model.

What to bring to your designer

  • A floor plan showing the hob, the island or wall run, and any possible route to an outside wall.
  • Your intended base-cabinet and drawer arrangement, including the space beneath the hob.
  • The exact appliance model code and the matching ducting or recirculation components.
  • Details of any room-air-dependent fire or appliance, so your qualified installer can assess air-supply requirements.
  • Access arrangements for filters and future servicing.

Choose the system before ordering components

A list of individual parts is not an installation design. Ask your designer or installer to confirm the whole route and the components for the exact appliance. Our showroom can discuss your proposed selection and include the agreed items in your private quote.
